HW 3 - Food - Fast Food Insights and Green Market Realizations

Fast food come a long way since its creation, although people are know concerned of the effect it has on their health.People started to open up markets with pure food, food that has been grown without pesticides or animals that were able to roam on their own. At the Greenmarket we asked a merchant who sells beef the difference between his meat and a burger found at McDonald's. He told us the main difference is the way the steer was raised, the McDonald's farm the animals are kept in small areas and are feed a high calorie diet's to ensure they stay fat. The animals meat at the market lives outside and is feed grass, which in most cases is there natural diet. After the McDonald animal is slaughtered they mix the meat with many chemicals for flavor and soy to keep the meat moist at consumption.

The Greenmarket somewhat takes people back to the age pre-supermarket, where to buy a different product you have to go to the other shops. Even so the Greenmarket has adapted slightly to the supermarket idea where products are located in one area.

Fast foods success has derived from the prices, that are very convenient to teens and adults on a budget. Most of there food is altered to taste good, chemicals are added to coverup the other none beef and none chicken ingredients. Above all the food is fast, an entire meal to fill an individual ready to eat in 1-2.5 minutes. The atmosphere at these chains have also been changed, the companies wanted an age friendly environment, no more Ronald McDonald statues or loud colors. A growing and continuing problem with fast food is the health side effects that come, they have been complying with all the new rule, there is no more trans fast, a reduction in salt use, even the menu has alterations made. Salads have an entire menu board, smoothies are now on the menu, they have milk and juice. Fast food restaurants can offer a changing what society wants at a low price.

HW 2 - Food - Initial Thoughts

Food is more that preparation and and how to cook; what is going on at the table at dinner. Dinner can be with your hole family, it serves as a reason to bring people together. July 4 it has become a time where everyone settles around a BBQ and eats hot dogs and hamburgers. Why do people want to eat this food, to celebrate a sacred day in the US why not eat an expensive luxurious meal to show how far our country has come. It has become a norm in pleasantville when dinner is ready everybody has to come to the table. Maybe this gathering is more scientific; peoples instinct is if i obey to the house rules i can eat. Mom cooks dinner and tells me to sit at the table i am most likely to sit.

Food has become popular magazines are always telling people what family's like best, or how to make a special dinner for a boyfriend or girlfriend. The Food Network is a network entirely dedicated to food. It can be vary hard to make an original dish, and to novice chefs learning to make "30 minute meals with Rachel Ray" that can be "Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello." Then it all spawns of to how to eat right which is the important thing now. Then health is an issue; 8 out of 10 people over 25 are obese, and now companies cut back on trans fat, salt, msg which is derived from seaweed. heathy tastes bad.

Food is defiantly sacred. The dictionary refers the word sacred to the gods or towards religious purpose. Food can be vary religious, The last supper painted by Leonardo Da Vinci is when jesus says that one of his twelve apostles would betray him, this was done over a feast. Any many religions fast they give up eating food for period of time in exchange for forgiveness. It does not have to be jesus to have a last meal; in a Time magazine article No Seconds talks about peoples last meal prior to execution. many of these meals relate back to their home life. Peter Kürten a german serial killer requested Wiener schnitzel as part of his last meal.
